Sunflower Tango

This was a commission with perimeters of size and color, which graciously allowed time for me to study my subject. I spent a few summer months in 2012 observing sunflowers: how they grew in the fields, moved in the wind and changed with the light, and how the textures and colors varied. I wanted to show their movement, and their vibrancy, and allow the design to be more than a still life. Finally, I could see sunflowers that dipped, twisted and intertwined in a tango!
